Hello !

Our ship, the Polarstern, has return at her homeport, Bremerhaven, for a month (between may the 14th until June 11st) in order to perform maintenance procedure. So when we will embark, it will look as nice as new !

Then, we will sail straight to the north (see on picture). Our objective is the Kveithola through, a canyon close to the Bear Island, south of the Spitsbergen island.

Notre navire, le Polarstern, est rentré à son port d'attache pour un mois de maintenance (entre le 14 mai et le 11 juin). Du coup, il sera comme neuf lorsque nous embarquerons !

De là, nous naviguerons plein nord (cf. image). Notre objectif sera la fosse "Kveithola", un canyon sous-marin à proximité de l'ile des Ours, au sud de l'ile principale de Spitzberg.

La nostra nave , la Polarstern , restituito alla sua porta di casa per un mese di servizio ( tra il 14 maggio e l'11 giugno) . Quindi , sarà come nuovo quando spediamo !

Poi , navigheremo dritto al nord ( vedi immagine ) . Il nostro obiettivo si fossa " Kveithola " , un canyon sottomarino vicino all'isola Orso, a sud dell'isola principale di Spitsbergen .

Hi !

As Eurofleets2-BURSTER is an oceanographic mission, it will happen on the sea. And obviously, we need a ship ! Thanks to the AWI (Alfred-Wegener-Institute) a German research institute focused on Marine and Polar science, we have one. Here she is :

This is the RV Polarstern, the flagship of the AWI fleet (her name means North Star). As you can see on the picture, It's an icebreaker. But I hope that the Arctic sea will be ice-free this June !

La mission Eurofleets2-BURSTER est une mission océanographique, par conséquent elle se déroulera en mer. Donc, il nous faut un bateau...Grâce à l'AWI (Alfred-Wegener-Institute), un institut de recherche marine et polaire allemand, nous en avons un, que voici :

Il s'agit du RV Polarstern, (l'étoile polaire), le principal vaisseau de la flotte de l'AWI. Comme on peut le voir sur la photographie, c'est également un brise-glace. Mais j'espère que l'Océan Arctique sera libre de glace en juin !

Come Eurofleets2 - BURSTER è una missione oceanografica, accadrà sul mare . E ovviamente , abbiamo bisogno di una nave ! Grazie alla AWI ( Alfred - Wegener - Institute) un istituto di ricerca tedesco focalizzata sulla marina e la scienza polare , abbiamo uno . Eccola qui :

 

Questo è il RV Polarstern , l'ammiraglia della flotta AWI ( il suo nome significa stella polare ) . Come si può vedere dalla foto, E ' un rompighiaccio . Ma spero che il mare Artico sarà a giugno libero dai ghiacci !

Hello everybody !

My name is Christophe, from Besançon, France. I'm a biology and geology teacher, and a lucky one...
I've been selected to be part of an oceanographic cruise to the Arctic Sea. This expedition, codename "Eurofleets2-BURSTER", will sail south of the Svalbard Island on June 2016.

My mission will be to share all about this scientific expedition with everyone interested in ! We will talk about oceanography, physics, climate, ice, polar regions, scientists, technicians, seafloor organisms, sediments, water currents, icebreaker ship, and even  polar bears.... !

This will certainly be a great one-in-a-life experience, and I will try to do my best to share all about this expedition with you.
So stay tuned in the next days for more information about this wonderful expedition !

Je m'appelle Christophe, de Besançon. Je suis prof de SVT, et assez chanceux en fait... J'ai été retenu pour accompagner une mission océanographique dans l'Océan Arctique, nommée Eurofleets2-BURSTER. Elle se déroulera au sud de l'archipel des Svalbard, en juin 2016.

Ma mission sera de partager le plus possible autour de cette expédition scientifique, avec quiconque intéressé ! On parlera d'océanologie, de glace, de physique, du climat, des régions polaires, des chercheurs, des techniciens, des bestioles vivant au fond des ces mers froides, des courants marins,  , du brise-glace, et même d'ours polaires !

Ce sera pour moi une expérience unique, et je ferai de mon mieux pour la partager avec le plus grand nombre.
Alors suivez ce blog dans les jours à venir pour davantage d'informations sur cette superbe expédition !

Il mio nome è Christophe, da Besançon, Francia. Sono un insegnante di biologia e geologia, e un fortunato ...
Sono stato scelto per far parte di una crociera oceanografica al Mare Artico. Questa spedizione, nome in codice "Eurofleets2-BURSTER", navigheranno sud dell'isola Svalbard il giugno 2016.

La mia missione sarà quella di condividere tutto su questa spedizione scientifica con chiunque sia interessato! Parleremo di oceanografia, la fisica, il clima, il ghiaccio, le regioni polari, gli scienziati, i tecnici, gli organismi del fondo marino, sedimenti, correnti d'acqua, nave rompighiaccio, e anche gli orsi polari ....!

Questa sarà sicuramente una grande esperienza, e cercherò di fare del mio meglio per condividere tutto su questa spedizione con voi.
